Hey Creator,
Sometimes the biggest shift in AI isn't a single launch. It's when multiple companies start solving the same problem at the same time.
That's exactly what's happening with the ad workflow.
Let’s look into it!
The Ad Problem Three Platforms Decided to Fix at Once
As a creator, your usual ad workflow till now has probably looked something like this: design the ad in one app, publish it in another, then check how it did in a third — usually a different dashboard for every platform it ran on.
That's still how most people run ads in 2026, and it's exactly what three major companies decided to fix at the same time.
At Cannes Lions, between June 23rd and 25th, Meta, Runway, and Canva each announced updates aimed at closing that gap — without coordinating with each other.
Meta unveiled AI advertising tools built around brand consistency and creator partnerships
Runway launched Agent 2.0, building entire ad campaigns from a single conversation
Canva rolled out Grow 2.0, merging ad creation, publishing, and reporting into one workflow
Three companies, three products, one shared diagnosis: the tools for making an ad, running it, and understanding whether it worked have always lived apart. That gap is what all three are now racing to close.
What each one is actually doing
Meta — consistency at scale:
Brand Memory studies a brand's past ads to learn its identity and tone, then applies that when generating new creative
Merged its two separate creator tools (Creator Marketplace and Partnership Ads Hub) into one Creator Marketing Hub
Brought agency workflows in through a WPP partnership, so creative and media teams work from the same system
Runway — the brief itself:
Agent 2.0 turns a conversation into a structured marketing brief, then generates the video and image assets to match
Analyzes uploaded performance data from Meta, YouTube, TikTok, or Google to inform what to make next
Adapts one campaign across markets — swapping visuals and localizing copy instead of rebuilding from scratch per region
Canva — publishing and reporting:
Generates ads from a prompt or website URL
Publishes across Meta, TikTok, and LinkedIn without the export-resize-upload cycle
Shows performance from all three platforms in one dashboard instead of three
Why now, and why all three at once
Cannes Lions isn't a random pick for timing. It's the advertising industry's biggest annual stage — the one week where every major advertiser and agency is paying attention, which is exactly why ad-tech companies save their biggest announcements for it. That explains why all three landed in the same 48 hours: it's the moment with the most eyes on it, not a coincidence.
Each company is playing to its own strength:
Meta owns the platforms ads run on, so its edge is consistency and reach
Runway owns video production, so its edge is turning an idea into finished creative fast
Canva owns design, so its edge is closing the loop between making something and knowing if it worked
But the direction is the same. A year ago, these platforms were mostly competing on output quality — whose video looked more realistic, whose image generator was more accurate. Now the competition has moved up a level: whoever owns the most of your actual workflow.
What this means if you're the one running the ads
The upside:
Less time exporting files, logging into separate ad managers, and manually pulling reports together
More time for the harder-to-automate parts — figuring out what story to tell, and who it's for
The trade-off, worth naming honestly:
Every one of these tools works best when you stay inside its ecosystem
Canva's reporting only covers what you published through Canva
Runway's performance analysis depends on the data you upload
Meta's Brand Memory only knows your brand as well as your ad history on Meta specifically
The more of your workflow lives inside one platform, the more that platform's pricing and access decisions become decisions about your business too
Worth watching
Canva Grow 2.0 is rolling out first in North America, Australia, and the UK
Meta's Creator Marketing Hub is scheduled to launch later this year
Runway's Agent 2.0 is live now, still expanding through smaller updates
Which one is worth building a workflow around probably depends less on which is most advanced today, and more on which platform your ads already run on. There's little reason to consolidate onto Canva if most of your spend already sits inside Meta's ecosystem, and vice versa.
The bigger pattern to watch isn't which of these three wins. It's how many more platforms follow the same playbook over the next few months.
