Hey Creator,
Google I/O took place on May 19, and while there was plenty to unpack, one announcement hit differently for creators.
Google launched Gemini Omni Flash — a new AI model that lets you create, remix, and edit videos using nothing but prompts, images, audio, or existing footage.
On YouTube, it's free. Remixing with Omni is rolling out this week inside YouTube Shorts Remix and the YouTube Create app at no cost. If you want access through the Gemini app or Google Flow, you'll need a Google AI paid plan.
Here's everything you need to know.
Gemini Omni Flash is the first model in Google's new Omni series, announced at Google I/O 2026.
It's built around a single idea: take any input — text, image, audio, video — and generate high-quality video output.
What makes it stand out from other AI video tools is conversational editing.
You refine your video through a back-and-forth conversation, in plain language, across multiple turns — and the scene stays consistent throughout.
What you can actually do with it
Remix a YouTube Short using your own prompts and images — change the visual style, shift the era (think: 90s vibe), or insert yourself into another creator's video, while keeping the original context intact
Transform existing footage — take a video you already have and change what's happening in it, add characters, or swap the environment entirely
Create from mixed inputs — combine a reference image, a piece of audio, and a text prompt into one cohesive video
Edit across multiple turns — refine the same video through conversation without losing continuity. Change the camera angle, lighting, or specific objects, turn by turn
Create with your own digital Avatar — generate videos that look and sound like you, without being on camera. You provide a voice reference, Omni builds a digital version of you. Significant for faceless creators and entrepreneurs who want a personal presence without filming themselves
Why this matters even if you don't make videos
You no longer need a camera, editing software, or a production budget.
A marketer can turn a product image into a video ad with a single prompt
A writer can visualise a concept or script without any technical skills
A designer can apply a visual style reference to moving footage
An entrepreneur can create branded video content solo, in minutes
The physics upgrade
Omni has an improved understanding of real-world physics — gravity, fluid dynamics, kinetic energy. Generated videos look realistic, not just visually stylised. Marble rolling down a track, liquid rippling, objects reacting to force — it holds up in ways earlier AI video tools didn't.
What's not available yet
Audio editing — changing speech or voice in a video — is not live. Google confirmed it's still testing this carefully before releasing it.
What's coming next
Omni Flash is just the first in the family. More models and more output types — including image and audio generation — are on the way.
Omni is also coming soon to YouTube's AI Playground. Developers and enterprise customers get API access in the coming weeks.
Safety and transparency
Every Omni-generated or remixed Short automatically carries a SynthID digital watermark plus metadata linking back to the original creator's video. Creators can opt out of having their Shorts remixed at any time.
YouTube's Likeness Detection tool — which lets you flag and request removal of AI content that misrepresents you — is expanding to all creators aged 18 and older this week.
Where to access it
Free: YouTube Shorts Remix and the YouTube Create app — rolling out this week
