Ever spent 20 minutes fixing a design that took you 10 minutes to create?

You have an Instagram post that looks almost perfect. You just want to change the colours, tweak the headings or give it a slightly different look. But one small change turns into several little edits. Sound familiar?

Canva might have something for that.

Meet Canva Brush, a new AI model announced on October 29. It's designed to understand your existing designs and help you make changes without having to start all over again.

So, what can Brush actually do?

You can ask it to change the visual style of an existing design, update elements across multiple pages of a presentation or adapt a design for a different purpose.

The idea is simple: tell Canva what you'd like changed, and Brush helps make those edits while keeping your design editable.

Here's what you can use it for

  • Give old designs a fresh look: Change colours, styling and visual elements without rebuilding the entire design.

  • Make edits across pages: Update headings and styling across multiple pages of a presentation.

  • Adapt existing content: Rework designs for different formats and platforms instead of creating everything from scratch.

  • Keep control of your design: The resulting design remains editable in Canva, so you can fine-tune individual elements.

For creators who regularly make social media posts, presentations, newsletters and other branded content, this could save quite a bit of editing time.

Want to try it?

Brush is currently available for supported design edits through Canva AI for Canva Pro subscribers. If you're using Canva's free plan, you'll have to wait for wider availability. Canva hasn't announced a confirmed date for that yet.

The takeaway

We've seen plenty of AI tools that promise to create designs for us. What's interesting about Canva Brush is that it focuses on helping us work with designs we've already created. Sometimes, that's exactly the help a busy creator needs.

Two Pro-tips for Using Canva Brush

Tip 1 — Be clear about what you want to change. Try: "Give this design a warm, earthy colour palette but keep the layout, text and logo unchanged."

Tip 2 — Don't start from scratch. Pick an older design you like and experiment with giving it a fresh look. It's a good way to see where Brush can save you time.
